The grade II listed facade was retained and the interior remodeled to house retail and food & beverage offerings. An all weather roof terrace was created, with the installation of a glass and steel structure with motorised roof. I was engaged to work closely with the founder to oversee design and fit-out of the building interior after practical completion of the base-build. We traveled to Norway and Denmark to source beautiful furniture, invited a Japanese master plant artist to adorn reception areas, negotiated on luxuriously glazed lava stone from Mount Etna for bar counters and table tops. We engaged in design of bespoke furniture pieces and sourced metalworkers and joiners to fabricate them. The work was hands-on and creative.We completed this building just as Britain headed in to lock down and the doors closed almost as soon as they had opened. All of its venues share the same values but are aesthetically different. My largest and most recent focus in this collection was the Broadcaster which opened in October 2021. I was engaged in 2019 to make structural changes to the existing shell & core, creating an additional floor and roof terrace and subsequently complete its fit out. I managed the planning approval process, appointed and managed architects, building control, specialist subcontractors and led an in-house design team. The most challenging aspect of this project was navigating through the pandemic. The project ran on a pre-pandemic budget operationalised in a post pandemic world. In 2017 I started an extraordinary 2 year adventure with them as project manager. My primary focus was exhibition and set-building for some of England’s most prestigious venues including the V&A, and Buckingham Palace. With Setworks I worked alongside technicians and craftsmen learning about machinery and processes. I gathered a deeper knowledge of materials, how to manipulate them and assess toxicity for priceless collections.
